Vincent Starts Posing

This week was a good week. I watched High Plains Drifter on the weekend and then decided to watch the entire Man with No Name trilogy afterwards. All I can say is that I made the right decision.

As of now, I'm putting the finishing touches on a foreground character for Todd. The character is a highschooler who's supposed to be walking from left to right on the screen. It's my job to rough out a pose and then go in to line and color it. It's essential that the acting comes across in the initial sketch.

Vincent Is Back on Builds

I worked on two more resources this week after finishing the Jock character from the previous week. Both are resources that I already worked on that need further revisions. One of them is a Mug in a sock that needs to have the tips of the sock changed and the other is blow up sex doll that needs to be tweaked in a bunch of places. I started with the blow up sex doll just because out of the two it needed more revisions and I wanted to give myself a challenge. The notes Joel gave were very helpful. So far I'm getting through them all without any problems! By the time the day is over they should both be finished.

We also filled out a personality survey a few day back for a Lunch n Learn meeting. It was a short survey with 4 possible personality types based around colors. I expected there to be a description for my personality type by the end of it but the point of the survey was only to match me to a colour so that I could find other people who had the same personalty trait as me. I ended up not going to the lunch and learn though so I never got to find any other greens, haha.

Vincent Is Headed to the Movies

Last week was a really busy week. It was the final week to finish the scenes for Beethoven's wig. I was assigned a scene where the characters bow before the curtains close and a scene where characters drive their cars into the frame and then dance. For each scene I got to try out animating each of the different characters. They all had something unique to their design so that it didn't feel like they were variations of the same character.

Right now, I'm re-doing a scene from a while back with the Jock character. There are some changes that I'm making to the naming in the library and to the football that he's holding. It won't take too long to get done. Also, gonna see Finding Dory next week. Should be fun. :D

Vincent Says Happy Father's Day!

This week I worked on two more character concepts. One of them was a dancing Italian and the other was a dancing Frenchmen.

I've thought it over and I've decided it's time to make an art blog where I can put my stuff. I'm 20 right now and I'll be 21 in December. (three years ago I was 17). I'll make sure to include my middle name, Jon-hin because my last name is the most common Chinese last name. 21 is supposed to be the age of maturity, which sounds so obvious but this knowledge had to pass through history to get here.

Father's day is coming up soon. Love you dad! Love you mom!

Vincent and the Dancing Robot

I started on two new characters this week. Both from a new series, Beethoven's wig. One is a dancing robot and the other character's a bald guy, not Beethoven though. The Todd style 's better in my opinion. It's less 'plastic'. If you can't attach a character design to a real life person there's no point to it. Even really cartoony characters. There's something that's just scary about character designs that don't come from reality. Well, it's okay if they're really simple shapes I guess.

Pippa left the studio this week. It was her last week here. Didn't get to talk talk to her much but I wish her luck wherever she may go. Maybe our paths will cross one day. It's been a month here already. I worked on a lot of cool character's and concepts so far.

An Old Vincent Post

This week I'm working on two of my concepts from last week and also working on two new ones. I'm going to watch X-men with my friends this weekend. I'm excited.

Wow, It's been a month already. I've really learned a lot so far. This month has gone by in a flash. haha

I've been making a serious effort to plan things in my life recently. All of the events of my past I have on a time line in my head as well as goals for the future. That way I can tell exactly when I'm not on track and then immediately snap back on track after realizing this.

Vincent and 90's Movies

This week we got to view the animatic for the film and tried out a game with a virtual reality headset! It was really fun! Can't wait to see what the final film looks like.

I also saw the movie Midnight Special which was amazing and it got me thinking how perfect it would be if that movie came out in the 90's and made this sequence of Silence of the Lambs>Nirvana>Evangelion>Midnight Special right before the new millennium began.

Learned about using the MoveRegPoint tool to move rotation points and fast ways to clean up the symbol library. Right now, I'm making adjustments to one of the concepts I had last week.

Time Flies by for Vincent!

Second week at Smiley Guys and I've been drawing clean lines for Todd concepts. There's something really Zen about untangling flash nodes. It's almost like they untangle themselves. Almost done a charred corpse concept and starting an ash concept.

Thought it would be fun to look through my high school artwork and psychoanalyze myself. The third painting in particular is a lot spookier than how I remembered it.

Been listening to the film-spotting podcast, which I adore. Wow, the second week is almost over. Haha, This can't be happening!

Introducing Vincent!

Hello! This is Vincent Chan. I'm a Sheridan student interning at Smiley guys studios. It's my first week and I'm enjoying my time here!

I've learned a whole lot so far about making functional flash puppets and rigging characters properly. Along with that I'm honing my FOCUS. I feel like if I can only concentrate my focus to a high enough degree speed, skill and efficiency will naturally come. 'FOCUS AND NEVER LOSE FOCUS EVER' is my new personal mantra.

As for the work I've been doing I just finished cleaning and coloring a character from 'Todd and the Book of Pure Evil' (which was surprisingly fun) and I'm currently working on facial expressions for this character. Next up I'll be testing this character in a walk cycle...

lookin' forward to the next week :)
